Ironwood

Ironwood ... You've heard of ironwear, ironweed, ironwork, but this is Iron wood . A small North American tree, ostrya-virginiana, having strong, hard wood.

My wood comes from Dupree Lake Bottoms, located near the Black Swamp Wildlife Management Area. My friend Lynn Ryan Holler (my webmaster's father) and I, avid duck callers, were discussing this Ironwood tree. We decided to chop some down and experiment with making duck calls out of it. It was so hard, we couldnt chop it with an ax, we had to use a chainsaw.

I have a limited supply of this wood. It makes a quite unique duck call. You need one of these esoteric calls for your collection.
